Research
In a nutshell
During the last few years, I have gained scientific and research expertise in several fields of applied mathematics. In particular, two areas have caught my attention.
The first is related to the modeling of composite materials, which represents one of the motivations of my PhD thesis and first postdoctoral work. I exploited the potential of homogenization methods and studied the macroscopic effective response of real-world heterogeneous structures. These approaches were not only devoted to analytical solutions but also to numerical implementations by means of Matlab scripts, the finite element software Comsol Multiphysics and an home-made Python library for homogenization. As a result, the research work led to publications in high impact journals and the presentation of the results at international conferences as well.
The second area of focus, which I have been working on recently, is the emerging discipline of Scientific Machine Learning (SciML). Inspired by the era of big data, recent advances in AI/ML provide powerful tools that allow us to achieve important results in various scientific fields, including Physics and Engineering Sciences. The primary goal of this research project is to employ SciML methods to predict the early-stage evolution of thoracic aortic pathologies. During this period, I have gained not only research experience but also industry knowledge of the ML lifecycle.
